This Western Clock Co. Westclox Ben-Hur nickel plated alarm clock was purchased from an eBay seller in May of 2016. The seller stated that
the case and base are in very good condition and that the clock runs great and that the only issue with the clock is the winding key for the alarm was missing. The nickel-plated can obviously has several stress cracks and the bezel has a few dents and the plating is only in fair condition. Inside the movement was filthy and badly worn. I don't know how it ran at all. The main spring had been replaced with one that was too wide which wore almost completely through the main wheel gear.
The clock was disassembled and a correct replacement main spring was installed. The damaged main wheel and the spring barrel were replaced with parts from a similar salvaged movement. Bushings were installed for the going train pivot holes. A somewhat wrinkled hair spring was replaced with one from a salvaged clock. Both balance screws were replaced with new ones. A salvaged alarm winding knob was extended in length and fitted to this clock as was an alarm set knob. They are not exactly like the original but are very similar and function properly.
The case is 4" in diameter and about 3 3/4" deep with a die cast base. The face has considerable wear and aging. This is a now a nice running little alarm clock that's a little smaller than the Big-Ben and larger than the Baby Ben from this time period. It has a few blemishes and has probably see hard service but now has a new lease on life.
