Raingo Frères bronze shelf clock, circa mid 19th century
This is a very decorative, and quite heavy, bronze shelf clock. The movement, and presumably the case, are by Raingo Frères, Paris, probably around the mid 19th century. Raingo Frères clocks have won a number of awards and appear in well known museums. I could find no other examples of this clock. The round French movement has the Raingo Frères logo and is not unlike other round French count-wheel clocks. As received the movement was dirty and had a few previous repairs but is generally in fine condition. The pendulum has a matching serial number, The hands appear to have been painted white. The glass in the back door is cracked and was left as found. The movement mounting straps had been previously replaced with an incorrect type but in as much as the original mountings were gone and the replacements were sturdy, it was decided to leave these as found except for the plated screws. The clock has been in the owners family for many years.
