M. W. Atkins & Co. Brass Weight Powered Time & Strike OG Clock With Alarm, circa
1850
This is a nice old weight powered OG clock with brass time and strike movement made
by M. W. Atkins & Co. probably around 1850. It is complete with an alarm and
separate alarm bell. The wooden case has a bold and attractive grain and may have
been refinished at some point. Clock had some misaligned pinions and wheels and
some indication that movement frame had been previously bent to correct the
problem. Frame was straightened as best as possible and one pinion relocated on its
arbor for better alignment. The movement was cleaned and a few bushings installed.
The two wooden weight pulleys were turned true and fitted with Delrin-AF bushings.
The face is believed to be original and has a bit of paint loss. The mirror may be
a replacement. Over all a nice clock. The clock was returned to the owner in
working order.
