Cuckoo Clock Mfg. Co, Linden Black Forest Alarm, 1964
This is a small alarm clock with external brass bells on the top. The face is about
2 1/2 inches in diameter. It has a simple pin pallet lever escapement and hands
that once glowed in the dark but seem pretty dead now. The movement is stamped
Cuckoo Clock Mfg. Co. Inc. West Germany 64 7 which I
believe likely represents July 1964. I acquired this clock on e-Bay along with
another clock for parts. It was pretty beat up but I hate to trash something that
can still be repaired, even if it has no significant value. I was surprised to
discover that it had a movement with brass plates that was bolted together and very
serviceable. There was plenty of rust, dried up oil, and lint, but after cleaning
everything up I found it to be a fairly strong and willing runner. The somewhat
rusted brass-plated steel case was missing the back foot. A new brass foot was
attached and the case cleaned up and sprayed with metallic paint.
This cute little alarm is probably more of a novelty than a serious means to awaken
a deep sleeper. It doesn't take up much space so I'll just add it to my
collection.
