Westclox La Salle Dura Case 61-D Alarm Clock, 1938
This is a Westclox La Salle Dura Case 61-D Alarm movement dated 11/28/1935. This clock
has a nickel-plated die-cast case with a pewter-like finish that Westclox called
the "Butler" finish. These cases were made by the Dura Company of Toledo,
Ohio. It stands about 3 1/4" tall and has a typical Baby Ben movement. The
clock was purchases from an eBay seller in October 2016 as not working. The clock
was complete except for three small screws that secure the clockworks and bell to
the back of the case. The dial and hands are in great condition and I would say the
case finish is good but not perfect. Inside the movement was fairly clean and
showed no signs of having ever been serviced and only moderate wear. It was however
dry of oil. The movement was oiled and started running with a little more than
180 degree balance rotation but would not continue running.
The movement was subsequently disassembled and cleaned and 8 bushings installed. One of the balance screw cups was replaced with a new screw cup. Clock was reassembled and added to the collection as running. This model has a beat rate of 14,400 BPH.
