Seth Thomas Dundee Shelf Clock, circa 1917
This is a Seth Thomas Dundee 8-day time and strike shelf clock with a full "silvered" face. This example has the Seth Thomas 89-AL movement with a strip deadbeat escapement, solid back plate and removble rate adjuster. The clock strikes the hour and half hour on a coiled gong. It appears to have the original unmolested case, although one of the brass"feet" is missing. Someone had previously installed three screw-in bushings. These are not generally considered to be a proper professional repair but a shortcut method to bush worn pivot holes without disassembling the movement. One was badly worn, one had damaged the pivot. All three were removed and replaced with properly fitted pressed in brass bushings. The original pendulum bob had been replaced with an adjustable bob due to damage to the Seth Thomas rate control device. The rate adjustment mechanism was repaired and the adjustable pendulum bob retained. After service the clock ran strong and is a good time keeper.
Not for sale (Returned to owner after repair)
