Ansonia Belmont "Kitchen Clock", circa 1894-1911
This is a "parlor clock", sometimes called a "kitchen clock"
made by Ansonia Clock Company. It has a spring powered brass 8-day time and strike
count wheel movement. Strikes the hour and the half-hour on a coiled gong. The
half-hour strike is on the count wheel. I believe the fancy nickel plated pendulum
is original. The clock has a complete original label. The face is an older
replacement and there are signs that the case may have been refinished at one time.
The door glass is attractive and may be original, I'm not sure.
The Belmont is one of the clocks featured in Steve Conover's, book, How To
Repair 20 American Clocks. He gave it 5-stars for quality. I acquired this
clock from a local estate auction on Feb. 16, 2009. It was running as received, but
I cleaned it, installed a couple bushings, and made a few minor repairs to the
strike train while I had it apart. It's a nice looking clock and runs
well.
