Audubon Quartz Bird Call Clock, c. late 20th century
This is an example of the popular Audubon quartz "bird call" clock. Each
hour the clock plays a realistic recording of the call of a different bird. The
movement is a basic quarts trigger movement that is connected to a sperate circuit
board containing the sound chip and memory for the bird calls. I see these
occasionally in the clock shop and the usual problems are corrosion from leaking
batteries and/or failure of the quartz movement. The clock is difficult to
disassemble as the thin glass is cemented to the plastic case but with care can be
removed. Various trigger movements can be made to work in this clock but fitting
the original hands is often an issue. The clock has a photo cell to automatically
turn off the bird calls at night. There is button to advance the call to the next
bird until it matches picture on the dial.
