WaterburySharp Gothic Extra "steeple clock", circa 1880s
This is a Waterbury Sharp Gothic Extra "steeple clock" with visible pendulum. It has an 8-day brass time and strike movement that strikes on a brass bell. I found this model in an 1880 Waterbury catalog and that date seems about right for this style. The hands are a replacement and not exactly right for the clock. I believe all the other parts are original.
The label in the bottom of the clock is hard to read but identifies the maker as Waterbury. The back board has several names and dates from 1904 to 1991 when the clock was repaired or refurbished. The most recent refurb was 1991. The case has been refinished or at least over coated with shellac and I have seen neater work. There is some veneer damage, but I guess that just helps this clock show it's age. As received, the movement was running but badly in need of cleaning. I installed one pivot bushing and replaced a missing pendulum regulator nut. This will make a nice addition to my collection.
