New Haven Warwick Banjo Clock, circa 1920-1930?
This is a small time only banjo clock made by New Haven Clock Company. It's
about 24 inches tall including the eagle. The movement is an unsigned brass 8-day
movement of the balance wheel and pin-pallet type. The face is metal with painted
on numerals. The bottom compartment opens and provides a convenient place to store
the winding key. The tablet is a print and looks to be original. I have found very
little information about this clock, but it appears to have been made in during the
first half of the twentieth century, probably in the 1920's or 1930's. Any
additional information would be appreciated.
I acquired the clock in an auction on Feb. 18, 2008. The clock movement was very
dirty but otherwise in nice condition. The sidearms had been painted. The bazel,
being brass, was stripped and polished and looks very nice. The sidearms, not being
brass, were cleaned and repainted. The rest of the clock was cleaned up and
polished to make very nice looking, if not especially valuable, time piece. The
clock runs but gains a few minutes each day and is not a great timekeeper.
SOLD on eBay® $51.00 in 2008
