Vencenti Small French Oval Crystal Regulator, c 1860-1900.
French, Vincenti, time/strike brass and glass oval crystal regulator, circa
1860-1900. The medallion reads (as best as I can make out) “Medaille De
Bromze” and in the center “Vincenti” and a couple other letters
that are not clear. It was typical to stamp movements when they won some award. In
this case the bronze metal in some competition. Vincenti also shows up as
Vincenti & Cie in some places. Vincenti made similar clocks from the mid
eighteen hundreds but I have been unable to date this one more closely. The
movement is a typical round French movement except somewhat smaller in diameter. It
has a Brocot escapement and the pallets appear to be replacements.
Inspection of the movement revealed several previous repairs that were redone. Both
springs had damage and were replaced. I was surprised to find relatively soft
pivots and pinions that were not as smoothly cut as one might expect on a French
clock. The clock has the original mercury pendulum. After service the clock was
running well. No effort was made to polish or restore the brass case. The dial has
several hairline cracks that do not distract from its attractive looks.
