Seth Thomas Stanhope adamantine mantel clock, circa 1906
This is a typical 8-day black mantel clock from the early 20th century.
The movement is not marked but is clearly a Seth Thomas No. 89. It strikes the hour
on a coiled gong and the half-hour on a brass bell. The adamantine case is in
pretty nice condition and has most of an advertising label on the back. The name
Stanhope is stenciled on the bottom. The serial number suggests that the
clock was made in 1906. The clock once belonged to my uncle and remains in his
family. Little else is known of the clock's history. The clock was here for
repair and is now in fine running order.
