This is a nice little Seth Thomas 8-day banjo clock. It has a Seth 120J 8-day
spring powered time and strike movement that strikes the hours and the half-hours
on a single tone rod. The pendulum bob is brass faced over lead or zinc and has a
short brass hanger and rating nut. The sidearms are brass and the dial is silvered
and has a few minor scratches. Both tablets appear to be correct for this clock but
I did not confirm that they are original. As shown, the clock is about 29 inches
tall including the eagle.
There is a round access plate on the back to allow adjustment of the gong hammer
but not much more. The movement is accessed by removing the dial. The throat
section is not removable so care is needed when removing and installing the
movement. The escapement is a deadbeat design and the springs are installed in
removable spring boxes attached to a separate plate. The springs can be removed
without separating the movement plates after strike rack has been removed.
