Seth Thomas TAMBOUR, circa 1915
This is a Seth Thomas "tambour-style" mantel clock from around 1915. As
far as I have been able to learn, the model name is "TAMBOUR". It's a
little over 20 inches wide and a little over 10 inches tall. It has round Seth
Thomas 8-day time & strike No. 48L brass movement with deadbeat escapement and
cylindrical pendulum. The case has its original finish which shows light crazing. I
obtained this clock from a local estate auction on March 09, 2009. The clock was
running, striking properly, and keeping good time as received. I removed the
movement for inspection and I found no excessive wear, so I just dusted it off,
oiled it and returned everything to the case. At some point I will disassemble the
movement and give it a through cleaning, but for now, I just plan to enjoy this
lovely old clock.
