Sessions No. 975 "Bim-Bam" mantel clock, 1933
The is an 8-day time and strike mantel clock. It strikes the hour on a pair or tone
rods to produce the "Bim-Bam" strike pattern, which was popular at this
time. The half-hour passing strike is on a single tone rod. The strike on the hour is controlled by a count wheel. The silvered face has flat
painted black numerals and is in excellent condition for its age. The front of the case has an attractive inlay.
Sessions made a number of similar models during the 1930s, with each model being
only slightly different. The hands, movement, and all significant parts are
original. There is a 1933 date stamp on the complete label. The clock was mechanically serviced, including bushing work etc as needed in 2008 and is in good order.
This clock was purchased in December 1934 from a jeweler in Easton Maryland by my grandfather Mr. O. L. Harrison as a gift for his wife. The clock was replaced with an electric clock during the 1950's and the old Sessions seemed to have just disappeared. Then in 2008 I discovered that my uncle had the clock stored in a closet all these years until 2008 when I restored it to running condition. After my uncle's passing in 2016 at the age of 93, I was pleased to learn that he had willed my grandmother's clock to me. The clock has minimal monetary value but I treasure it because it was purchased new by my grandparents and has remained in the family since that time. As a small child I can remember this clock on my grandmother's fireplace mantel and I thought it was so neat because it made all these wonderful sounds and didn't even have to be plugged in. Well it is now in in my home sounding out the time of day quite nicely, and I love those old familiar sounds.....and it still does not need to be plugged in!
