Seikosha medium drop trunk round-top regulator, circa 1910
Seikosha medium drop trunk round-top (school house) regulator in oak. It was
acquired from a local estate auction in March 2014. Missing upper glass has been
replaced. Inside label decent as is lettering on lower door. Movement was oiled
only and is running and striking but should have some bushing work and a complete
cleaning for reliable operation. Unmarked movement looks typical of Seikosha but
can't be sure if it is original to the clock. Pendulum is old but may not be
original to this clock. The dial seems correct but looks to have been replaced or
at least remounted. Door and bezel hinges and latches all work. The finish looks
pretty nice for a clock this age but not sure if it is original. The back of the
clock has the The Aichiken Clock Makers Union label. Inside the clock was found a
receipt where the clock was serviced in 1989.
A nice example of an early (pre WWII) Japanese clock that is remarkably similar to
American clocks of this type from the same period.
