Seikosha medium drop trunk octagon regulator, circa 1910
Seikosha medium drop trunk octagon (school house) regulator with pressed oak
decoration. It was acquired from a local estate auction in March 2014. Complete
inside label and lower door lettering. Movement is stamped with the Seikosha mark
and is believed to be original to the clock. Movement has been disassembled and
cleaned and oiled and both clicks and click springs replaced. One main spring
appears to have been replaced at some time, the other looks original. Pivot holes
have minor wear and have never been bushed. The clock is running and striking
nicely. The dial seems correct but looks to have been replaced or at least
remounted. The hands are old and were rusted and sanded smooth and cold blued.
Upper glass has been remounted at some point with "epoxy putty" and may
be a replacement. The pendulum is typical of what is often on similar Seikosha
clocks. Door and bezel hinges and latches all work. The finish looks pretty nice
for a clock this age and is likely original. A nice example of an early (pre WWII)
Japanese clock that is remarkably similar to American clocks of this type from the
same period.
