Revere R-937 Electric Westminster Chime Clock, circa 1937

This is a vintage Revere Model R-937 electric powered mechanical Westminster chime clock. Plays Westminster chimes on the quarter hour using 4 nice sounding tone rods. It strikes the hour count on a pair of the tone rods. This clock was obtained from an estate auction on Feb. 16, 2008. The clock has a sweep seconds hand and is running, chiming, and striking. I'm not sure when the clock was made, but I would guess around the late 1930's. Could the 937 model number be Sept. 1937 as well as the model??? I just don't know.

The clock seems to be operating properly but it does have a few mostly cosmetic issues. The Telechron B3 motor is not loud but I can hear it running with an ear up next to the clock. The mechanical movement looks nice and I oiled the pivots with high quality clock oil while I had it out for inspection. The cord is a recent replacement and is in good condition. The wires on the motor coil are old and stiff but not bare. As received the end of hour hand was broken off and someone had done a rather sloppy job of trying to solder on a replacement end and left a nasty gob of solder that caused the circular mark on the dial. The sloppy repair was corrected but the hands don't exactly match. The base board was split and has been reglued and is now strong. The finish is a little rough and there are some bumps and dings, but overall an interesting little clock.
