New Haven Clock Co., Referee, circa 1910-20
New Haven Clock Co., Referee 8-day store regulator made for the
"Greater New York Clock Co." {on dial} by New Haven Clock Co. The time
only brass movement with recoil escapement has the New Haven trademark stamp. There
is no label. The Deeply pressed wood case has darkened over the years but appears
to have it's original finish. Original paper dial has age appropriate blemishes
but is in surprisingly good condition. The pendulum is original. The hands are in
excellent condition and could also be original. The glasses are original. The lower
glass is labeled "STANDARD TIME" and the lettering is original and
untouched.
I acquired the clock in May 2011 from the grandson of a good friend of mine now
deceased. The case was gently cleaned. The movement was disassembled, cleaned and
several pivot bushings installed. The brass over cast iron pendulum bob was
polished and the clock adjusted and set to running. It is a strong running clock
and a great time keeper. The last three owners are all known to me and all are
local people. This clock has been a part of my community for a very long time and I
am very pleased to have it. .
Of course it is NOT FOR SALE
