Plymouth quarter strike Tambour style mantel clock, circa 1937
This is a nice example of a little 8-day quarter striking mantel clock by Plymouth
Clock. The clock has a number 891 L qtr strike bim-bam movement with a
half-deadbeat escapement. It sounds 1, 2, or 3 bim-bam strikes on the corresponding
quarter hour and them strikes the hour count only on the hour. It uses a rack and
snail strike control. Plymouth Clock was apparently a division of Seth Thomas. The
movement is essentially the same as the Seth Thomas movement and is based on the
proven Seth Thomas No. 89 series.
