Ingraham "Kitchen Clock" from the Ocean Series, circa
1900
Acquired at an estate auction May 12 2008. The clock is a typical American oak
"kitchen" or "Gingerbread" clock with pressed oak decorations.
The clock had spent many years being neglected in a barn, but was pretty much all
original and untouched except that the pendulum was missing. The 5th & 6th
pictures shows how it looked when purchased. Under all the filth, someone had
painted it an awful gray color. The case was stripped, reglued/nailed, and warped
parts straightened. The 8-day brass movement was filthy and needed 12 bushings, but
now looks and runs great. Strikes the hour and the half on a nice sounding original
gong. A replacement dial was greated from a scan of the original, which was too far
gone to salvage. The pendulum shown is a temporary replacement until I obtain a
more appropriate pendulum. I kept the original stenciled door glass even though it
is not in great condition. Overall a nice early American clock.
