New Haven Camden Line Oak Kitchen Clock, circa 1906
This is a nice example of an 8-day oak kitchen clock. Made by New Haven
Clock Co. This model is one of three similar clocks from the Camden Line
shown in the 1906-1907 New Haven catalog. It was available with or without an alarm
and with a regular or gong strike and sold for $4.25 to $5.15 in 1906-1907. The
movement is a typical New Haven with brass plates and open springs. Strikes the
hour and the half-hour on a nice coiled gong. The dial was professionally
refinished by The Dial House and is a perfect copy of the original. I
believe that everything is original. This is a great example of an American
"Kitchen Clock. It's a bit of a mystery to me why these have become known
generally as kitchen clocks. Similar ornate clocks in walnut cases were often
called parlor clocks while the ones in oak cases are generally called kitchen
clocks.
