Sessions Lyric No. 3 bim-bam mantel clock, circa 1930s.
This is Sessions "Bim-Bam" mantle clock with an 8-day brass time and strike movement. Strikes the hour on dual tone rods and the half hour on a single rod. I have yet to find a date of manufacture, but I am guessing late 1930s. Clock was obtained at a local estate auction on November 13, 2006 for $2.00. The poor thing had been left outside in the rain for a couple of weeks prior to the auction. The case was falling apart and much of the veneer coming off. The metal face and hands are in excellent condition, and other than being filthy dirty and having a couple of worn pivot holes, the movement was in decent original condition.
The veneer was reglued and the warped and broken case parts straightened and repaired. The movement was disassembled, cleaned, and bushed. The brass plates originally had no oil sinks and looked rather strange with just a couple of new bushings with oil sinks, so I opted to rebush the entire time and strike trains. I suppose it would have been more practical to have sold the movement and junked the case, but it just seemed to be saying "I'm all here, just fix me up and give me a second chance at life", and so this project was born. The clock is now looking and running fine.
