Old finish being removed
Cleaned and repaired movement

Waterbury Lowell mantel clock, 1918
Clock has an 8-day movement and strikes the hour and the half on a coiled gong. The
movement plates are brass-plated steel with large brass bushings. It has a
half-deadbeat escapement between the plates. The face is porcelain and in fairly
good condition. A previous owner must have attempted to refinish the case and did a
rather poor job. The movement appears to be correct and is probably original to the
clock. The fast-slow adjustment from the dial does not work due to a broken gear
tooth and the previous owner apparently "corrected the problem" by adding
an adjustable pendulum bob. This clock was obtained at a local estate auction on
Aug. 14, 2006. No other information is available.
The movement has been cleaned and bushed as needed, the speed adjuster repaired
(although I left the adjustable pendulum in place). The case has been completely
refinished, although I am not exactly sure what the original color was. The hands
have been reblued. Restoration was completed on Feb. 13, 2007. This clock is now a
part of the collection of a family member.
