E. Ingraham and Co., Parlor Calendar, circa, 1890
This is a wonderful old E. Ingraham 8-day time and strike on the hour and the half
clock that uses the B B Lewis calendar mechanism. I believe the model name is
either simply Calendar or Parlor Calendar. This clock was recently
restored to operating condition in my shop. As received, the clock had an incorrect
upper dial, just a stub of a "day hand", and a missing date hand. The B B
Lewis calendar mechanism was inoperative and the heavy cardboard calendar dial was
badly warped. The calendar had been replaced with a picture behind the glass but
the original calendar parts were able to be located! The movement was dirty and
required some bushing and pivot work but was generally in good condition.
The upper dial was replaced with a reproduction created in my shop to closely match
what I believe the original may have looked like. I could not find a replacement
"day hand" so the one in the picture was made here in my shop. The
calendar mechanism "month hand" was permanently attached and had to be
removed in order to remove the calendar mechanism. With the mechanism removed, the
warped calendar dial was contact cemented to a round 22 gage steel plate. The
mechanism repaired and everything reassembled. The Ingraham movement turned out to
be a strong runner as can be seen by the pendulum swing in the second photo. The
only regrettable thing is that I had to return the clock to its owner after it was
restored.
