Ingraham Black Mantel Clock, circa 1900
Acquired at an estate auction May 12 2008. The clock is a typical American black mantel clock. 8-day time and strike brass movement. Strikes the hour on a gong and the half-hour on a small bell. Black wood case with faux marble columns. Clock model name has not yet been determined as the original back and label are missing. The style is typical of the early 1900's to the nineteen teens. The movement has been cleaned, bushings installed where needed, and is in great running condition. The case retains its original black finish, which has developed a rather crazed and "pebbly" surface texture. Much of the original gilding/plating on the decorative metal parts is now gone. I believe the hands are original. The case was given a light cleaning and otherwise left in original unrestored condition. The back of the case is a new replacement. The pendulum bob is a new replacement.
This clock is on long-term loan to the Rural Life Museum of Trappe Md., Inc.
