Haddon Products Home Sweet Home Model 30, circa 1946
This is nice little electric clock with an animated diorama. The clock motor causes
"Granny" to rock continuously in her rocking chair. A small light bulb
illuminates the clock and the diorama. I believe this clock was made around 1946.
Its a Model #30 and was made in USA. The clock serves as a night light. A switch on
the back controls the light. These are very collectable and fascinating to watch,
but they were not especially well made. The case is made of papier-mâché with a
fiberboard back which could pose a fire hazard if the lamp bulb is replaced with
too high a wattage or if the hot bulb should contact the case. The animation crank
adds extra load for the motor and the main drive pinion on this clock was badly
worn. I was able to put spacers under the motor so that a previously unused portion
of the drive pinion engaged the rest of gear train. Repair parts are generally not
available and must be made or improvised and the cost to repair often exceeds the
market value of the clock
