Hamburg American porcelain wall clock, circa 1904
German Hamburg American porcelain wall clock, circa 1904 with porcelain enamel dial
over metal back case, brass eight-day time only pendulum movement with recoil
escapement. I believe there were several variations of the design on the face,
mostly Dutch village scenes. There is a small chip that is hardly noticeable.
I acquired the clock in January 2012 on eBay. The clock was sold "for
parts" and was missing the pendulum. The movement needed to be cleaned and the
main spring was broken. The No. 2 wheel had a bent tooth, which was probably the
result of the spring break. The tooth was straightened. The spring barrel was
bushed and a new spring anchor pin fabricated and installed. The pivots and pivot
holes showed little or no signs of wear. A pendulum was constructed from scrap
materials on hand. The clock was reassembled and seems to be good runner. There was
an attractive old key with the clock, but I don't know if it was original to
the clock. The key was badly worn so the barrel was replaced keeping the attractive
handle.
This is not an especially rare or valuable clock, but I like it and have a place on
the wall where it should fit nicely.
