Greenfield Enterprises "Cottage Style" clock,
1973/2008
I made this clock from an eclectic collection of recycled and surplus material
laying around the shop. The movement is a W. Haid 351-020, which is a rebranded
Hermel 8-day Westminster chime movement of the same model from 1973. Most of the
wood in the case was salvaged from my mom's old 1930's sewing machine,
which was on the way to the dump. A friend gave me the chime rods, and I salvaged
the bell from something but I can't remember what. I made the dial based on
style of a friend's circa 1920 Waltham banjo clock.
I wanted the clock to be "different" so I substituted the little bell for
the 5th. tone rod. The bell along counts the strike after the chimes finish. I
really like the sound. The movement, which I purchased on eBay for $15.00, has been
rebuilt and runs nicely. I'll probably use this clock in my shop or in my
office to actually tell the time of day. The clock does have a back which is not
shown.
