Waterbury 8-inch Drop Octagon Gilt,
circa 1891.
8-day brass movement strikes on the hour only.
The clock was bought on eBay from a seller in
Wentzville, Mo., December 04, 2005. The face is a
reproduction "Waterbury", the face pan,
bezel, hinge, hands, and glass appear to be
replacements. The hands were too short for the
dial and these were replaced. Movement had been
previously bushed, but the work was "cleaned
up" and a strike side spring with a poorly
repaired broken end was replaced. The rest of the
clock appears to be original. The clock is in
good running order and I run it every day. Listed
in the 1891 Waterbury catalog.
The back of the case has a label with oriental
characters, along with the Waterbury label. If
you can translate this oriental label, or know
it's significance, I love to hear from
you.
