E. Ingraham Doric 8-day with alarm, circa 1880
This is a classic Doric with an 8-day brass movement and alarm function by E. Ingraham.
Clock strikes the hour only on a coiled gone. The alarm has an iron bell. The label is mostly
complete but has considerable damage to the right side. There is a March 30 1869 Pat. date on the
label. I believe this model was made for a number of years and this individual probably dates to
the late 1870s or early 1880s.
I purchased the clock on eBay on March 17, 2008 at a "bargain price". The hands were
mismatched so at least one of them is not original. A replacement was made to match the one that
seemed closest to what would have been expected. Most of the original reverse painting remains. I
believe that both glasses, the movement, alarm, and winding key, and case parts are original. The
face is nice and correct for this clock, but it may be an older replacement. The gong and gone
base are not original. There is an October 13, 1886 date and name on the back, which could be
when the clock was serviced. The movement has just been rebuilt and the case was refinished. The
clock runs well.
