Western Clock Co., Westclox Big Ben Style 1 Luminous Dial Alarm Clock, 1927

Westclox brand Big Ben 30-hour "peg-leg" bedside alarm clock with black face and luminous dial made by Western Clock Co., LaSalle, Ill . Based on the style and dial lettering, I believe this is possibly a style-1. The movement is dated 2-7-27. The last patent date listed on the rear cover is Dec 17, 1925. The clock stands 7" high and is 5-1/4" in diameter X 2-3/4" deep. I purchased the clock on e-Bay March 16, 2012 for $13.06 which was an exceptionally good buy. It features a selection of four settings on the top of the case. The one selector may be set for either ALARM or SILENT and the other selector may be set for either STEADY or REPEAT. The latter allows the sleeper to catch a few extra moments of rest before the alarm begins to sound off again, all functions work properly however the labeling of the control levers is mostly gone. This clock presumably has a Radium dial and the hands and numerals still glow in the dark but not brightly. This is a large alarm clock with a very loud bell.

The clock was described as being in good working order but sold "as is". I wound the clock and it runs strong and keeps time. I later removed the movement from the case and polished the nickel plating. The bezel is ok but the back is mostly rough with some rust pitting. Inside, the movement had been oiled excessively but is otherwise in decent shape. I did a superficial cleaning and removed some excess oil and returned the movement to its case.
